How to wash and maintain my Moustache electric bike?

Keeping the bike in top condition means extending its lifespan and ensuring every ride delivers that signature Smile ;-{D! But washing an electric bike isn't the same as washing a traditional bike some key differences must be considered.

Essential items for cleaning a Moustache bike

Mild soapy water or a gentle detergent for effective yet non-aggressive cleaning

  • 4

A specific chain lubricant to keep the drivetrain smooth and long-lasting.

  • 5

Brake cleaner to maintain braking efficiency.

5-Step Maintenance Guide

Step 1: Preparation

  • Find a suitable outdoor space for cleaning.
  • ⚠️ Avoid using a high-pressure washer! It can damage components like the frame, fork, brakes, and transmission.

Step 2: cleaning the frame
The frame is the heart of your Moustache bike, ensuring durability for off-road adventures and responsiveness for city rides, thanks to 6061 T4-T6 aluminum. Regular cleaning keeps it looking brand-new and allows you to check for potential issues.

1. Spray water from top to bottom, finishing with the wheels.
2. Dip your sponge or brush in soapy water.

3. Gently scrub the frame to remove dirt and dust.
Paying attention to hard-to-reach areas.

4. Rinse with clean water using a hose.

5. Use a clean, soft cloth to wipe down the frame and components, removing any soap residue.

6. Completely dry your bike to prevent water buildup and corrosion.

Step 3: cleaning the chain & drivetrain
The chain and drivetrain are the first parts to wear on your Moustache e-bike. A clean, well-lubricated chain reduces friction and wear, resulting in better power transmission and smoother, quieter shifting.

  • Apply a drivetrain cleaner, avoiding the brake pads.

2. Slowly pedal forward to pass the chain through a brush, removing dirt and oil residue.
(Pedaling backward won’t move the chain, only the pedals will spin.)

3. Use a clean cloth to wipe off excess cleaner.

4. Apply a suitable lubricant evenly along the chain.

⚠️ Do not get lubricant on the brakes! Wipe off any excess to avoid attracting more dirt.

Step 4: Cleaning the brakes
Brakes are the primary safety feature on your Moustache e-bike. Proper maintenance ensures they function reliably, whether you're cruising through the city or tackling winding trails.

  • Use a brake cleaner and a microfiber cloth to clean the brake discs and calipers. Do not touch them with your fingers.

2. Spray the cleaner directly onto the brake discs.

3. Wipe the brakes with a clean microfiber cloth sprayed with cleaner until they are clean and dry.

⚠️ Do not let anything else touch the brake discs!

Step 5: General inspection

  • Check the tires for wear or foreign objects and ensure they are properly inflated.

2. Inspect the cables and housings for damage.

3. Ensure the brakes are functioning properly and are well-adjusted.

4. Tighten bolts and nuts if necessary.

5. Fully dry the bike, paying extra attention to the Bosch electronic components.

Congratulations! Your Moustache e-bike is now clean and well-maintained. Regular upkeep extends its lifespan and value.
