Need tips to master your electric bike perfectly? Dive into our user guide to accompany you on this new adventure and help you get the most out of your Smiling Machine!
Routine Checks
Before getting on your Moustache bike, ensure you have everything you need for a safe and successful ride.
This includes adequate safety equipment: a helmet, gloves, and a functional lighting system (especially for nighttime rides).
Additionally, always ensure your Moustache e-bike battery is sufficiently charged to guarantee optimal range depending on your ride!

Once in front of your Moustache bike, start with a general inspection to detect any signs of damage or wear. Then make sure:
- Your handlebars are tightened securely.
- Your tires are properly inflated (refer to the recommended pressure chart below).
- Your brakes are functioning correctly.
This process is crucial to ensure your safety on your Smiling Machine
How to pedal properly with my electric bike?
Here are some tips to master the art of pedaling on an electric bike for an optimal riding experience!
- 1
Maintain a consistent pedaling cadence: It’s generally more efficient to maintain a steady pedaling cadence (around 60 revolutions per minute). This maximizes the efficiency of the electric assistance and reduces muscle fatigue.
- 2
Anticipate gear changes: Before tackling an incline or decline, shift gears smoothly to avoid straining the chain and preserve the drivetrain.
- 3
Adapt your pedaling to the situation: Pay attention to your surroundings and adjust your pedaling accordingly. For example, if you’re approaching a red light or a stop, gradually slow your cadence to avoid abrupt stops. Similarly, if facing strong winds or a sudden incline, increase your cadence and electric assistance to overcome these obstacles.
By considering these three essential points, you can maximize the efficiency of the electric assistance and extend your bike’s range!
How to brake properly with my electric bike?
Understand your brake levers: The left lever controls the front brake, while the right lever controls the rear brake. This configuration maximizes bike control during braking.

Gradual braking: When you brake, weight shifts forward naturally, compressing the front tire and improving grip. Prioritize the front brake with gradual pressure for effective braking.
This approach allows you to smoothly adjust your speed, avoiding sudden stops that could compromise your balance or lock the wheels.
Braking and taking a turn: 5 Steps
- 1
Approach the turn and slow down by shifting to lower gears.
- 2
Use your brakes gradually before entering the turn to slow down, but avoid sudden braking that could reduce traction.
- 3
Do not use the brakes while in the turn to avoid any risk of imbalance. Keep your hands on the handlebars for full control.
- 4
Favor the rear brake during the turn to maintain bike stability. Keep light pressure on the front brake for optimal control, but do not press too hard.
- 5
Keep your gaze towards the turn’s exit to anticipate your trajectory and adjust your speed accordingly. By maintaining a smooth trajectory and adjusting your speed to the turn, you enhance your safety and control on the road.
By understanding these braking principles and using your brake levers wisely, you can fully enjoy your Moustache riding experience safely ;-{D
(PS: Don't forget to maintain your brakes to keep them at peak performance – they are the first elements ensuring your safety on your bike!)
How to secure my electric bike?
We all know how important it is to properly secure your bike when it’s out of sight. Here are some tips to protect your ride and minimize theft risks!
First, always lock your bike to a fixed attachment point using a dedicated bike lock when not in use. Preferably choose SRA-certified locks (a certification that attests to the resistance and reliability of locks and security devices for two-wheelers), ensuring certified protection against theft. It’s also wise to choose well-lit and busy locations to deter thieves.
Avoid weak locks such as thin cables and basic locks, which can be easily cut or forced.
4 types of locks to ensure the security of your electric bike
- 1
U-locks: Sturdy and resistant, they offer good protection against theft. Choose one with an SRA certification for enhanced security. Their predefined shape may sometimes prevent easy attachment to urban furniture. They are usually supplied with a mounting bracket for easy transport. A good quality-price ratio compared to their level of protection.
- 2
Chains: More flexible than U-locks, they allow securing the bike around various attachment points. Ensure they are thick enough and have secure locks. Chains can be carried in a backpack when not in use.
- 3
Folding locks: These locks offer a combination of robustness and flexibility. They are compact when not in use and can be easily attached to the bike. Slightly higher in price compared to other locks, but more practical and robust.
- 4
Integrated frame locks: Some of our models are equipped with an integrated “horseshoe” type lock (Axa), which already secures part of your Moustache electric bike. This type of lock is convenient for short stops but is not sufficient for complete security.
More and more electronic security devices, such as GPS trackers like Bosch’s BCM, are available to track and locate your bike in case of theft.
